Bible verses for when you feel alone
Last updated
Six King James passages speak to loneliness: Deuteronomy 31:6, Psalm 27:10, Psalm 34:18, Isaiah 41:10, Matthew 28:20 and Hebrews 13:5. Each promises God’s presence in the exact moment people leave or are absent. Every quote below is word for word KJV.
| Verse | Plain-words meaning | Good for |
|---|---|---|
| Deuteronomy 31:6 | God goes with you and will not leave | Starting something alone |
| Psalm 27:10 | God takes you in when family will not | Family hurt |
| Psalm 34:18 | God is near the brokenhearted | Grief |
| Isaiah 41:10 | Do not fear, God is with you | Fear at night |
| Matthew 28:20 | Jesus is with his followers always | Feeling forgotten |
| Hebrews 13:5 | God will never leave or forsake you | A short reminder |
Deuteronomy 31:6: he goes with you
Moses speaks to Israel before they cross into the land without him. The promise is that God himself goes with them and will not leave them. That is the point of the verse: the leader is leaving, but the presence is not.
Deuteronomy 31:6 (KJV): “Be strong and of a good courage, fear not, nor be afraid of them: for the LORD thy God, he it is that doth go with thee; he will not fail thee, nor forsake thee.”
Psalm 27:10: when family lets you down
David says that even if his own parents leave him, God will take him in. It is one of the few verses written for people who feel abandoned by family. Psalm 27:10 (KJV): “When my father and my mother forsake me, then the LORD will take me up.”
Psalm 34:18: near the brokenhearted
This verse says God is close to people who are hurting, not at a distance from them. Read it slowly if you are grieving or have been left out. Psalm 34:18 (KJV): “The LORD is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart; and saveth such as be of a contrite spirit.”
Isaiah 41:10 and Matthew 28:20: with you
Isaiah has God promising to be with his people, and Jesus ends Matthew’s Gospel with the same kind of promise to his followers. Both verses say, in different centuries, that presence is the answer to being afraid and alone, and both are short enough to learn by heart.
Isaiah 41:10 (KJV): “Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.” Matthew 28:20 (KJV): “Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.”
Hebrews 13:5: never leave, never forsake
The writer of Hebrews quotes what God has already said in earlier scripture. The line is short and fits on a note card. The sentence before it in the chapter is about money, so read the full verse for context. Hebrews 13:5 (KJV): “he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.”
When you also need a person
Verses speak to God’s presence, but loneliness also needs people. Text a friend, visit a church, or call a family member this week. Small contact beats waiting until you feel ready. Scripture itself assumes believers live among other believers, not on their own.

What Bible verse is best for loneliness?
Psalm 34:18 is a common pick because it says God is near the brokenhearted. Deuteronomy 31:6 is common for starting something alone.
Where does “I will never leave thee” come from?
Hebrews 13:5 uses those words. The writer is quoting what God had said earlier in scripture.
Are the quotes exact KJV text?
Yes, each was checked against the KJV text from bible.helloao.org.
What if I feel alone even in church?
That is common. Tell one trusted person plainly, and consider a small group instead of a large service.
